Crystal predicts personality from a profile. Riffly drafts the message from what the candidate actually wrote, posted, or built. $19/month instead of $49+. Voice fingerprint included.
Crystal Knows pioneered the "personalize cold outreach using DISC-style profiles" idea around 2015. It works on a real insight, generic messages get deleted, personalized ones get replies. But the way Crystal personalizes, by predicting a personality archetype from public profile signals, has aged poorly. The model assigns one of four DISC types to a candidate; the recruiter gets coached to write "Driver" or "Influencer" style messages.
The problem: a Staff Engineer who posts every Tuesday about Postgres replication, ships open-source backpressure middleware on weekends, and has "currently keeping FinTech APIs from falling over" in their headline isn't best understood as a Driver or an Analyzer. They're best understood as a person whose recent activity tells you exactly what to talk to them about.
Riffly grounds the draft in that activity. Pinned repos, last post, About text, current role. The output isn't "this is a Driver, lead with results"; it's "they just shipped a backpressure library and posted about K8s reserved capacity, the message references both, by name."

The two tools sit in the same operating zone, read-only browser extensions, manual send, no LinkedIn automation. Where they diverge is the personalization model. Crystal predicts; Riffly cites.
Yes. Riffly Pro is $19/mo for 200 drafts/month. Crystal Knows Premium is $49/mo at the entry tier and ramps higher for the features comparable to Riffly Pro. Less than half the price for the same recruiter use case.
No, deliberately. Crystal's wedge is DISC-style personality prediction from public profile data. Riffly's wedge is grounding the draft in concrete recent activity, pinned repos, recent posts, About text. Concrete beats categorical for cold outreach reply rates, in our experience and in the published research on cold-email response.
Yes, included at the Pro tier ($19/mo). Paste 5 to 10 of your past messages once; every future draft comes back in your cadence and sign-off. Crystal Knows does not have an equivalent feature; their personalization is the candidate's predicted personality, not your writing style.
No more than using Crystal. Both tools operate as read-only Chrome extensions that never automate sending; the user copies the draft and pastes it into LinkedIn's own composer. Crystal has been operating this way since 2015 with no mass enforcement; Riffly is in the same operating zone. See our security and data-handling page for the full architectural argument.
Riffly doesn't store contacts or personality profiles, there's nothing to migrate. You bring the candidate (their LinkedIn / GitHub / Wellfound profile in your browser); Riffly reads it once and drafts. The new shape is genuinely different, not a feature-for-feature swap.
Not yet. Riffly is Chrome-extension-only on the candidate-facing surface (LinkedIn, GitHub, Wellfound). If your workflow is sequenced inside an outbound platform, that's a real friction. ATS write-back is on the roadmap (Greenhouse first); CRM integrations are not currently planned for v1.
Try Riffly free. If grounded drafts at $19/mo beat predicted-personality coaching at $49/mo for your workflow, switch. If they don't, stay on Crystal, both tools are valid for different recruiters.
